Published Papers (available on my Phil People page)

  1. Solar Geoengineering, Delay, and Addiction (2025, Climatic Change) - A paper in which I show that several common arguments for solar geoengineering entail that the technology should be used to delay emissions reductions, despite widespread consensus that it should never be used for this purpose.

  2. How to Argue About Solar Geoengineering (2023, Journal of Applied Philosophy) - A paper in which I argue that many debates over solar geoengineering are confused, for they fail to make consistent assumptions about the future behavior of political actors at different stages of their reasoning.

  3. Neutrality, Nature, and Intergenerational Justice (2021, Environmental Politics) - A paper where I show that a liberalism committed to neutrality between different conceptions of the good has a hard time accommodating an obligation to preserve specific natural entities over time. I then propose one solution.

Works in Progress

  1. The Uses and Abuses of Carbon Dioxide Removal - A paper about why it’s disingenuous to claim that CDR is ‘necessary’ for emissions reductions and also claim that CDR should not delay emissions reductions.

  2. Constraints, Carbon Dioxide Removal, and Consumption - A paper about how to think about the assumption of ongoing economic growth in Integrated Assessment Models, and the relationship between growth and carbon dioxide removal.

  3. What’s Wrong with Cooling Credits?- A paper about why we should be worried about markets in solar geoengineering.

  4. Can Carbon Removal Make Climate Change Fair? - A paper in which I argue that we should be wary of seeing CDR as a means to climate fairness.

I’m also thinking about political feasibility, what kinds of actions or policies count as contributing to a shared social goal, and how to theorize well from a non-ideal perspective.

I’m always happy to share and discuss my work; please email me for drafts.
